Carnivàle (HBO): Ratings Recap

HBO's 'Carnivàle' premiered September 14, 2003 behind the mid-season finale of 'Sex and the City' and was able to retain a sizable chunk of that lead-in - logging a 2.6/7 adults 18-49 rating/share with 5.33 million viewers vs. 4.0/10 & 7.65 million for 'Sex'. The numbers remained relatively strong throughout the first season, only dropping below 3 million once, and averaging 3.6 million viewers over 12 episodes. A second season aired in 2005 to disappointing results - premiering with just 1.81 million viewers (& 1.5/3 in 18-49) and averaging just 1.8 million viewers over its run. It concluded on a high-note with 2.4 million, but that wasn't enough to warrant a renewal so the program was cancelled after just 2 seasons.
