Song Ratings: Week Ending March 4, 2021

Music ratings are divided into two weekly posts: one for albums, and one for individual songs; this is the song post. Songs achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on three major metrics: sales, streaming, and airplay. Below are three charts: the top 25 songs of the week based on total U.S. sales, the top 25 based on total U.S. streaming and the top 40 songs of the week based on U.S. pop radio airplay.

BTS's 'Dynamite' has again topped the song sales chart with a particularly strong 24,100 pure sales in the tracking week ending March 4. This made it the only song to log over 10K sales in the week though Cardi B's 'Up' came the closest with its 9,800 pure sales - up slightly over last week's 9K. Olivia Rodrigo's 'Drivers License' dipped to the third spot this week with 9,200 sales - decidedly down from last week's 13.3K. The next two songs on the chart are slightly older releases making a resurgence due to popularity on TikTok. In the fourth position is Masked Wolf's 2019 release 'Astronaut in the Ocean' (re-released January 6, 2021) which scored 7,500 in sales for the week, and in fifth was Spotemgottem's 'Beatbox' at 6,800. New in the top 25 this week is Gabby Barrett's 'The Good Ones' (4,300), Niko Moon's 'Good Time' (3,800), and Dua Lipa's 'We're Good' (2,400). Of note outside the top 25 is: Ariana Grande's '34+35' (1,600) & 'Positions' (1,100), Doja Cat's 'Streets' (1,400), SZA's 'Good Days' (1,200), and Lil Baby's 'On Me' (600). Note: this list only includes songs that had over $33.98K revenue for the week; a song with less than $33.98K in revenue could theoretically have more sales than the 25th ranked song on this list and it would not appear here.

'Drivers License' spent a second week atop the pop radio chart and furthered the divide between it and second-ranked '34+35'. The song logged 17,503 plays and reached an audience of 51.7 million in the tracking week, a healthy margin over Grande's song which had 15,683 plays and reached 47.3 million. In third, Billie Eilish's 'Therefore I Am' is making a play for the top of the chart, and had the second-highest week-to-week gain, up 1146 plays from the week prior (to 14,583). In comparison, 'Drivers License' was up 820 plays and '34+35' was down 339. Rounding out the top 5, 'Positions' dipped 3-4 this week and Chris Brown's 'Go Crazy' was down 4-5 though the latter had a much stronger fall off, down 1192 plays vs. 293. The biggest gainer this week, Maroon 5's 'Beautiful,' actually missed the top 25, making its radio debut with 1,930 plays and reaching an audience of 6.149 million. The week's other top gainers were Bruno Mars's 'Leave the Door Open' which debuted with 1,019 plays (3.499m), The Kid Laroi's 'Without You' (up 894), and Glass Animals's 'Heat Waves' (up 875 to 2,411 & 5.609m).
