Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to both Billboard and Rolling Stone. The two sites have different sources of data, hence why their numbers are different (but close). A second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.
Justin Bieber's new album 'Justice' debuted atop the album sales chart and finally de-throned Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' which had spent 10 consecutive weeks at number one. 'Justice' began with 154,000 units in the tracking week, the second-most for any album in 2021 after the 267,000 'Dangerous' logged in the week ending January 14. Lana Del Rey took the second spot on the week with her new set 'Chemtrails Over the Country Club' which scored around 75,000 units; the album did lead the week in pure album sales though, managing 58,000. The next three spots are in the same order as last week with each falling two spots: 'Dangerous' fell to 1-3 with 66,000 units, Pop Smoke's 'Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon' went 2-4 with 40,000, and Dua Lipa's 'Future Nostalgia' was 3-5 with 36,000. After last week's Grammys bump, Taylor Swift's 'Folklore' fell 10-14 with 24,700 units, and 'Evermore' wasn't too far behind at 22,000. Other albums of note outside of the top 10 include The Weeknd's 'The Highlights' (23,700), Ariana Grande's 'Positions' (23,400), Megan Thee Stallion's 'Good News' (23,100), Harry Styles's 'Fine Line' (23,100), Doja Cat's 'Hot Pink' (21,900), Benny the Butcher's 'The Plugs I Met 2' (16,800), and BTS's 'BE' (15,800).
