TV Ratings: Saturday July 4, 2020

The ever-so-deadly combination of a Saturday holiday equates to both a lack of original programming and low overall ratings. This weekend's Fourth of July was no exception with the only original telecast on the broadcast nets coming from NBC's coverage of the 'Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks' in New York. The program actually did fairly OK, easily taking the top spot among all programming (cable included) in adults 18-49 (0.69 rating), 18-34 (0.4), 25-54 (0.9) and total viewers (4.76 million). The re-airing at 10pm also did quite well at 0.55 in the demo and 3.23 million viewers.

On the cable side, ESPN's airing of the 'Hot Dog Eating Contest' won among adults 18-49 (0.32 rating), men of that demo (0.42), and 18-34 (0.24). Its 966,000 viewers placed it below cable news programming, but above almost everything else. The simulcast on ESPN2 logged a 0.05 rating with 173,000 viewers.

Elsewhere, Food Network aired its usual Saturday line-up of 'The Kitchen' (0.24 in 18-49/0.28 in W18-49, 1.187 million), 'Pioneer Woman' (0.22/0.24, 1.127 million), 'Giada at Home' (0.20/0.24, 990,000), and 'Barefoot Contessa' (0.15/0.16, 889,000).

In cable news, Fox News's 7pm program 'Fox Report' led among adults 18-49 (0.28), 25-54 (0.43), and total viewers (3.38 million). It held a healthy margin over lead-out 'Watters World' in both of those demos (0.19/0.33) and in total viewers (2.82 million). 'Judge Jeannie' (0.17/0.30, 2.57 million) and 'Gutfeld' (0.15/0.28, 2.24 million) weren't far behind.

CNN's three primetime hours of '4th in America' were at 0.16/0.22/0.20 in adults 18-49, 0.25/0.33/0.28 in 25-54, and 1.57 million/2.08 million/1.79 million in total viewers.
