Album Ratings: Week Ending October 7, 2021

Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to both Billboard and Rolling Stone. The two sites have different sources of data, hence why their numbers are different (but close). A second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.

Due to a combination of both vinyl sales and the shipments of autographed CDs, Taylor Swift's 'Fearless (Taylor's Version)' soared to the summit of the album sales chart in the tracking week ending October 7th. The album logged 152,000 album-equivalent units, of which 146,000 came from pure album sales and 6,000 from streaming. This brings its year-to-date total to approximately 772,000 units & 400,000 pure albums. With that, Drake's 'Certified Lover Boy' remained in the second position with an additional 110,000 units while YoungBoy Never Broke Again's 'Sincerely Kentrell' fell to the fourth spot (71,000) after last week's #1 debut. Sandwiched at #3 was the launch of Meek Mill's new album 'Expensive Pain' which began with 95,000 units, of which the vast majority (82,000) came from streaming. 'Montero' from Lil Nas X dropped 3-5, Olivia Rodrigo's 'Sour' dipped 5-6 with a bit over 43,000, and Doja Cat's 'Planet Her' went 6-7. Rounding out the top 10 was Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga's collaborative album 'Love For Sale' which debuted at #8 (41,000), Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' which was down 7-9, and finally Kanye West's 'Donda' at #10.
