Cable Network Ratings: 10/2 - 10/8/2017

Recap of the top basic cable networks in primetime for the week ending October 8, 2017.

ESPN again led all of the basic cable networks in primetime this week, with an average of 3.744 million viewers over the course of 7 days. Other networks that did over 1 million viewers were, in order: Fox News (2.451 million), TBS (2.382 million), Fox Sports 1 (1.618 million), Nickelodeon (1.528 million), MSNBC (1.480 million), CNN (1.175 million), USA Network (1.139 million), and HGTV (1.133 million). TNT took rank #11 with 912,000 (tied with Food Network), FX took was #16 with 809,000, Freeform was #28 with 485,000, and FXX was #57 with 233,000. With the MLB Playoffs in full force, 'MLB Network' was ranked #24 with 597,000 viewers; by comparison, NFL Network was ranked #21 with 648,000, and NBA-TV was #67 with 151,000. 

Among AMC's assets, its titular channel remained at #22 on the week with its 629,000 viewers in primetime. It's other channels include: WEtv (#41, 341,000), SundanceTV (#52, 251,000), BBC America (#59, 191,000), and IFC (#64, 144,000). IFC tied American Heroes Channel, which also averaged 144,000 viewers this week.

Among Viacom's assets, 23rd ranked TV Land led the week with 601,000 viewers. It was followed by: VH1 (#33, 417,000), Comedy Central (#36, 394,000), BET (#37, 381,000), MTV (#38, 377,000), Spike (#39, 362,000), CMT (#58, 225,000), MTV2 (#74, 117,000), Logo (#95, 50,000), and MTV Classic (#105, 13,000). Among Nickelodeon channels, Nick Jr. was ranked #25 with 563,000, Nicktoons was #56 with 234,000, and TeenNick was #66 with 143,000. Looking at the entire day, Nickelodeon averaged 953,000 over the course of the week.

Other networks of note include: OWN (491,000), WGN America (337,000), GSN (330,000), TruTV (266,000), Velocity (260,000), Oxygen (237,000), Reelz (136,000), Pop (124,000), Smithsonian (102,000), Ovation (89,000), El Rey (69,000), and Chiller (21,000). The lowest-rated network of the week was Comedy.TV which had a practically nonexistent 1,000 viewers (more than likely much less than that).
