2023 Wrapped

This will be the last post on the site for 2023, so as I do each year, I wanted to highlight what was accomplished in 2023 and where things are going in 2024.

Needless to say, the Nielsen Pocketpieces really were the focus of this year. I'd always wanted to get more into the historical ratings data and newspaper scans were able to sustain that for a bit, but once we get back to the late 70s, the data just wasn't really published in any comprehensive way. The Pocketpieces were truly the only comprehensive publication of TV audience data in this era, and luckily through a combination of library holdings and personal collections, a nearly complete collection of the Pocketpieces was available to be scanned.

I've had tremendous help in this project through an anonymous contributor who was gracious enough to scan all of the Pocketpieces from a personal collection we found while I scanned all the Pocketpieces in library collections (hence why some are in color and some are in black in white). I've also had help from another anonymous contributor who happened to already have scans of all the primetime grids for the fall-spring TV seasons spanning 1960 through 1977. This project truly would not be possible alone so a huge thank you to both of those people.

In 2023, I've posted all Pocketpieces from 1978 through 1985 and into 1986 and going into 2024 I will continue to be posting these one month at a time through 1991 and then begin working backwards from 1977. I've also posted the complete season primetime grids for 1960-61 through 1966-67 and I will continue posting these through 1976-77 in order to have a complete primetime archive of 1960 through 2010.

Something that has gone on the back-burner this year has been the more modern 2010-2014 weekly ratings charts. This really just comes down to the amount of effort these take to create and a re-prioritization of effort towards the Pocketpiece data. I do plan to get back to this in 2024; however, I'm currently going through older weekly posts and updating them with additional cable ratings data. I'm nearly finished updating the 2006-07 season posts after which I will move onto 2007-08, 2008-09, and 2009-10. After I get all of these updated to a standard I'm satisfied with, I will resume posting the 2010-11 data.

As always, I'm reachable through Disqus comments or through the contact box in the sidebar for any ratings inquires. Happy New Year!
