Album Ratings: Week Ending June 17, 2021

Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to both Billboard and Rolling Stone. The two sites have different sources of data, hence why their numbers are different (but close). A second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.

Top Streaming (SVOD) Ratings: Week Ending May 16, 2021

Netflix's new show 'Jupiter's Legacy' exploded in its first full week availability with nearly 1.02 billion minutes of watch-time to rank as the top streaming program in the tracking week ending May 16th. Hulu's 'The Handmaid's Tale' ranked a far second among originals (584 million) and Netflix's new program 'The Upshaws' was third with 560 million minutes in its first five days of availability. Second place overall belonged to Netflix's acquired program 'StartUp' which managed an impressive 760 million minutes in its first full week and even bested the usual top acquired programs 'Grey's Anatomy' (691 million), 'NCIS' (672 million), and 'Criminal Minds' (579 million). Finally, on the movie-front, Netflix's 'The Woman in the Window' was strong in its first 3 days of availability with 500 million minutes.

Top Streaming (SVOD) Ratings: Week Ending May 9, 2021

It was another rather slow week on the streaming services as only 1 program was able to reach 800 million minutes of watch-time. With that, Netflix's new movie 'The Mitchells vs. The Machines'took victory as the most-watched streaming program in the tracking week ending May 9th with 853 million minutes, easily besting 'Grey's Anatomy' (733 million) and NCIS' (721 million) which ranked second and third. Elsewhere, 'Jupiter's Legacy' scored 696 million minutes for Netflix in its first three days of availability to lead amongst originals while Hulu's 'The Handmaid's Tale' collected 690 million in the first full week of availability for its new season (down from 1.04 billion the prior week). Other originals of note include: Netflix's 'Selena: The Series' (639 million) & 'Shadow and Bone' (555 million), and Disney+'s 'Star Wars: The Bad Batch' (251 million). 

News Ratings: Week Ending June 6, 2021

Album Ratings: Week Ending June 3, 2021

Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to both Billboard and Rolling Stone. The two sites have different sources of data, hence why their numbers are different (but close). A second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.

News Ratings: Week Ending May 30, 2021

Below are the ratings for the evening news telecasts on the three major broadcast networks: ABC (World News Tonight), CBS (CBS Evening News), and NBC (NBC Nightly News), as well as six hours of evening/night ratings (6pm-12am) for the three major cable news networks: CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC. There are three charts below, the first includes total viewership (presented in thousands), the second includes viewership among adults 25-54 (the news demographic), and the final chart includes 18-49 ratings for the cable programs. I don't have 18-49 data for the broadcast news programs. Additionally, data only goes from Monday-Friday as I do not track weekend news ratings.

Top Streaming (SVOD) Ratings: Week Ending May 2, 2021

The first full week of availability for Netflix's 'Shadow and Bone' propelled it to the summit of the streaming ratings for the week ending May 2nd. The program logged just under 1.2 billion minutes of watch-time during the week to outpace second-ranked 'The Handmaid's Tale' from Hulu which scored 1.04 billion minutes from five days of availability for its fourth-season premiere (Apr. 27). Also in originals, 'The Circle' (641 million) held the third spot and was on par with last week's numbers (630 million), but Disney+'s 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' plunged to 364 million (vs. 796 million) in its first week without a new episode. On the acquired programming side, there was no surprises as 'NCIS' retained the top spot (872 million) followed by 'Grey's Anatomy' (746 million), and 'Criminal Minds' (680 million). Finally, Amazon Prime's new film 'Without Remorse' led all movies with a strong 760 million.
