Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to both Billboard and Rolling Stone. The two sites have different sources of data, hence why their numbers are different (but close). A second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.
Olivia Rodrigo's logged the best sales week of the year as her debut breakout album 'Sour' scored 295,000 album-equivalent units in the tracking week ending May 27. The vast majority came from 218,000 SEA units, but her 72,000 album sales were also the week's best numbers in that metric. This was the best sales week since Taylor Swift's 'Evermore' logged 329,000 in the week ending December 17, 2020 and it overtakes the previous-best 2021 sales week when Swift totaled 291,000 units for 'Fearless (Taylor's Version)' in the week ending April 15th. With that, J. Cole's 'The Off-Season' dipped to second with 92,00 units in its second week and brought its U.S. total to 374,000 units. Also debuting this week was Twenty-One Pilots with their new album 'Scaled and Icy' which ranked third with 75,000 units (51,000 albums & 24,000 SEA), and 42 Dugg's 'Free Demo Boyz' which took the eight spot with 32,000 units (1,000 albums & 31,000 SEA). Elsewhere, Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' held the fourth spot with 55,000 units (actually up from last week's 53K), Moneybagg Yo's 'A Gangsta's Pain' dropped 3-5 with 49,000, Dua Lipa's 'Future Nostalgia' was down 5-7 with 34,000, and Justin Bieber's 'Justice' dipped 7-9 with 31,000.
Albums of note outside the top 10 include: The Weeknd's 'After Hours' (28,200), PINK's 'All I Know So Far: Setlist' (28,000), Nicki Minaj's 'Beam Me Up Scotty' (25,400), Blake Shelton's 'Body Language' (24,000), Harry Styles's 'Fine Line' (19,600), Ariana Grande's 'Positions' (19,000), Eminem's 'Music to be Murdered By' (15,300), Waterparks's 'Greatest Hits' (15,000), and 'Fearless (Taylor's Version)' (14,500).
