Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to both Billboard and Rolling Stone. The two sites have different sources of data, hence why their numbers are different (but close). A second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.
In a week with few major debuts, Olivia Rodrigo's 'Sour' returned to the summit on the album sales chart with 88,000 album-equivalent units in the tracking week ending July 8th. Of this, 10,000 came from pure album sales, ~76K were SEA units and ~2K were TEA units. Next on the chart was Doja Cat's 'Planet Her' which retained the second position, falling to 68,000 units in its second week versus 109,000 for its debut. Not so lucky was Tyler the Creator's 'Call Me if You Get Lost' which tumbled 1-6 in the rankings with 44,000 units in its second week, down over 2/3 from its 169,000 unit launch. Elsewhere, Lil Baby & Lil Durk's 'The Voice of Heroes' ticked up 4-3 with 47,000 units, Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' rose 6-4 with 46,000, and Polo G's 'Hall of Fame' dipped 5-7 with 40,000. Finally, the only debut on the chart this week was G Herbo's '25' which began in the fifth spot with 46,000.
