Album Ratings: Week Ending December 9, 2021

Below is a breakdown of the top albums in the week ending December 9, 2021. Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard charts based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to Billboard (and usually a small select number albums below the top 10). The second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.

Adele's '30' scored a third week atop the album sales chart, moving an additional 193,000 album-equivalent units in the tracking week ending December 9th. Of this total, pure album sales accounted for 149,000 (where it led the week) and streaming logged 43,000. 'Red (Taylor's Version)' remained in the second spot with 80,000 units, but Michael Buble's 'Christmas' was pushed 3-4 this week and Olivia Rodrigo's 'Sour' was pushed 4-5 with the re-entry of Polo G's 'Hall of Fame' at #3 (78,000). Also in the top 10, Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' held at #6, Drake's 'Certified Lover Boy' dipped 5-7, and Doja Cat's 'Planet Her' rebounded back into the top 10 (39,000). Finally, two Christmas albums: Mariah Carey's 'Merry Christmas' & Vince Guaraldi Trio's 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' rounded out the top 10 at #8 and #9 respectively.
