Album Ratings: Week Ending December 16, 2021

Below is a breakdown of the top albums in the week ending December 16, 2021. Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard charts based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to Billboard (and usually a small select number albums below the top 10). The second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.

Adele's '30' spent a fourth week atop the album sales chart, selling another 183,000 units in the tracking week ending December 16th. It also again led in pure album sales with 146,500, bringing its yearly total to over 1.21 million. In the second spot was the debut of Juice WRLD's second posthumous album 'Fighting Demons' which launched with 119,000 units, of which 110,000 came from streaming & 4,000 from pure sales. Taylor Swift's 'Red (Taylor's Version)' dipped 2-3 in the rankings, but the next three albums - Olivia Rodrigo's 'Sour' (#4), Michael Buble's 'Christmas' (#5), & Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' (#6)  - all held their positions from last week. Rounding out the top 10: Mariah Carey's 'Merry Christmas' (8-7)and Vince Guaraldi Trio's 'A Charlie Brown Christmas'(9-8) each rose a spot from last week, Drake's 'Certified Lover Boy' fell 7-9, and Polo G's 'Hall of Fame' tumbled 3-10. Outside of the top 10, YoungBoy Never Broke Again & Birdman launched their new album 'From the Bayou' with 32,500 units, Monsta X scored 31,400 with the debut of 'The Dreaming', and Alicia Keys' nabbed 20,800 with 'Keys.'
