2021 in review

As 2021 comes to a close, I just wanted to say a few words regarding where this blog is at right now and where we're heading in the future. I am just 1 person and I've been running this blog solo for the last year while being a full-time college student and having a job. I do it because I really enjoy tracking the Nielsen ratings and because I'm committed to building a comprehensive Nielsen ratings archive.

I experimented with posting Music Industry data this year as well because I became interested in the data in late 2020, but I've recently lost that spark, so I'm going to be limiting the scope of the data I post to just 1 post per week with the Billboard Top 10 albums (and items of note below the top 10) and the top songs on top 40 radio. The last week of full data to be posted will be the week ending Dec. 30, 2021. Going forward, I'm hoping to reclaim some of that time and reallocate it to working on old TV ratings weeks.

A very welcome development this year was being given access to the full weekly cable ratings data courtesy of DarkUFO over at SpoilerTV. Having this data has made it so much easier for me to track the lower-rated cable shows I'm interested in and has made it so much more efficient to do the weekly cable ratings recap post. I remain unsure how long I will continue to have access to the data, but as long as I do then I will happily still respond to any requests.

I have big plans and big goals for 2022 which include (at the very least) finishing the 1999-00, 2000-01, 2005-06, 2009-10, and 2010-11 seasons. If I can do even more than that then I will certainly put in the effort to do that. Additionally, I am planning to put more of an emphasis on streaming ratings. Right now that is being done with the weekly Nielsen (SVOD) top 10 lists, but I soon hope to incorporate Netflix's global top 10 lists as well in some way.

Underscoring everything though is college. I am entering my final semester of college this spring and obviously that is going to be my top priority: both academically and socially. I feel like I did a pretty good job at balancing everything in 2021 and I hope to bring that same balance into 2022.
