Below is a breakdown of the top albums in the week ending October 28, 2021. Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard charts based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to Billboard (and usually a small select number albums below the top 10). The second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.
Note: this is the first week without the publication of the Rolling Stone music charts.
In a week devoid of chart-topping debuts, Drake's 'Certified Lover Boy' returned to the summit of the album sales & streaming chart with 74,000 album-equivalent units in the tracking week ending Oct. 28th. As has been standard, streaming accounted for nearly all (73,000) of its weekly total. As most of last week's debuts fell this week, Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' climbed back up to the second spot this week with an identical 42,000 units, and Doja Cat's 'Planet Her' jumped 7-3 with 41,000. Of last week's 3 debuts, only Young Thug's 'Punk' was able to remain in the top 10, falling 1-7 while both Coldplay's 'Music of the Spheres' (19,400) and Mac Miller's 'Faces' (18,100) fell off the chart. Back on the chart, Youngboy Never Broke Again saw 'Sincerely, Kentrell' rise 6-4 with 39,000, and Olivia Rodrigo saw 'Sour' up 9-5 with 38,000. Finally, Lana Del Rey launched her new album 'Blue Banisters' in the 8th slot with 33,000 units (19,000 pure) and Elton John's debuted 'The Lockdown Sessions' in 10th with 29,000 (17,000 pure).
