Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to both Billboard and Rolling Stone. The two sites have different sources of data, hence why their numbers are different (but close). A second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.
Moneybagg Yo's new album 'A Gangsta's Pain' debuted atop the album sales chart in the tracking week ending April 29, logging a solid 110,000 units. The vast majority were SEA units which accounted for 106,000 and about 4,000 were pure sales. This pushed 'Slime Language 2' from Young Stoner Life to the second spot, down about half from last week's 113,000-unit debut to 62,000. Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' stayed remarkably stable with last week, nabbing 54,000 units from 56,000 to bring its yearly total to well over 1.6 million. Eric Church dropped two new albums this tracking week: '&' and 'Soul' to go along with last week's debut 'Heart.' 'Soul' was released publicly and delivered 53,000 units in the week (42,000 pure albums) while '&' was released to only to a limited fan club and managed 11,000 units (all pure sales). Of note, 'Heart' had 12,000 units in its second week. Finally, The Weeknd's 'After Hours' returned to the chart this week (39,000) replacing 'The Highlights' (20,000), and Taylor Swift's 'Fearless (Taylor's Version' collected 33,000. Of note below the Billboard top 10 include: Ariana Grande's 'Positions' (23,600), Lil Durk's 'The Voice' (20,100), Machine Gun Kelly's 'Tickets to My Downfall' (19,300), Harry Styles's 'Fine Line' (18,400), Lil Yachty's 'Michigan Boat Boy' (14,500), Taylor Swift's 'Folklore' (14,300) & 'Evermore' (14,100), and Demi Lovato's 'Dancing with the Devil ... The Art of Starting Over' (13,700).
