Song Ratings: Week Ending April 15, 2021

Music ratings are divided into two weekly posts: one for albums, and one for individual songs; this is the song post. Songs achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on three major metrics: sales, streaming, and airplay. Below are three charts: the top 25 songs of the week based on total U.S. sales, the top 25 based on total U.S. streaming and the top 40 songs of the week based on U.S. pop radio airplay. An additional radio chart is also included with the top 50 songs of the week according to Mediabase which uses different methodology than Nielsen who compiles the regular chart.

In its third week, Lil Nas X's 'Montero (Call Me By Your Name)' finally reached the summit of the song sales chart, scoring 19,500 downloads in the tracking week ending April 15th - a strong increase from last week's ~14,500. Due to DMX's untimely death, two of his songs soared into the top 3 of the chart with 'Ruff Ryder's Anthem' logging 16,500 sales and 'Party Up' at 15,700. 'Leave the Door Open' from Bruno Mars dipped 1-4 in the rankings, but actually was up slightly to 15,300 (vs. ~14,800), while 'The Good Ones' from Gabby Barrett nearly tripled week-to-week, logging 11,700 downloads. Finally, Polo G's new song 'Rapstar' debuted strong on streaming, but managed a mediocre 5,400 downloads. Of note below the top 25 was Lil TJay's 'Calling My Phone' (1,800), Justin Bieber's 'Hold On' (1,800), Doja Cat's Streets' (1,500), SZA's 'Good Days' (1,500), and a host of songs from Taylor Swift's new album including: 'Fearless (Taylor's Version)' (1,800), 'Mr. Perfectly Fine' (1,100), and 'Forever & Always (Taylor's Version)' (900). Note: this list only includes songs that had over $40.23K revenue for the week; a song with less than $40.23K in revenue could theoretically have more sales than the 25th ranked song on this list and it would not appear here.

Polo G's new song 'Rapstar' debuted atop the streaming chart with a very solid 44.9 million U.S. streams in the tracking week; this was nearly twice the number of second-ranked 'Montero (CMBYN)' which logged north of 25.9 million. Justin Bieber's 'Peaches' dipped 2-3 and lost 2 million streams week-to-week (to 21.1 million), and Doja Cat & SZA's new song 'Kiss Me More' was ranked just behind it with 18 million. Both of Olivia Rodrigo's singles are in the top 25 this week with 'Deja Vu' at a strong 16.3 million and 'Drivers License' at just over 10 million. Finally, the only song from Taylor Swift's new 'Fearless (Taylor's Version)' album to reach the top 25 was 'Mr. Perfectly Fine' which scored 12.8 million. Note: this list only includes songs that had over $40.23K revenue for the week; a song with less than $40.23K in revenue could theoretically have more streams than the 25th ranked song on this list and it would not appear here.

As was expected, The Weeknd's 'Save Your Tears' finally reached the summit of the pop radio chart. The song had 14,367 plays and reached an audience of 39.67 million people in the tracking week ending April 17, up 1208 plays week-to-week. Tate McRae's 'You Broke Me First' rose 4-2 in the rankings, up 949 plays to 13,988 while Billie Eilish's two-week chart topper 'Therefore I Am' fell to the third spot with 13,797. Olivia Rodrigo's 'Drivers License' dipped 2-4 in the rankings, losing 949 plays, but 'Deja Vu' rose 25-19, gaining 1438. Elsewhere, 'Peaches' had the week's most-increased plays, rising 1671; other top gainers were 'Kiss Me More' which was up 1647, and Ariana Grande's 'POV' which jumped 1438. The biggest declines from the week came courtesy of Ritt Momney's 'Put Your Records On' (down 2245), Justin Bieber's 'Anyone' (down 2818), and Ava Max's 'My Head and My Heart' (down 2995).
