The marquee event of the night was MTV's '2020 Video Music Awards' which aired on 14 different networks, including 13 cable nets and 1 broadcast net (the CW). Cumulatively, the awards show averaged a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating and 3.551 million viewers, down quite heavily from 2019 which cume'd 4.9 million across 12 nets. Including the pre-show, post-show, and encores, it is reported to have averaged 6.4 million viewers though that it also down from 2019's total (6.8 million). Elsewhere on cable, TLC's '90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?' delivered the best numbers among adults 18-49 (0.95 rating), women 18-49 (1.32), females 12-34 (0.71), adults 25-54 (1.26), and total viewers (3.4 million). MTV's airing of the VMA's was a bit behind in both W18-49 (0.69) and total viewers (1.3 million), but only about a tenth back in F12-34 (0.6). Also on TLC was 'Darcey & Stacey' (0.68 in W18-49/0.36 in F12-34, 2 million) and 'Pillow Talk' (0.46/0.28, 1.5 million). Bravo's 'Real Housewives of Potomac' logged 0.39/0.16 in those demos with 913,000 viewers.
'NBA Playoffs' coverage on ESPN & TNT also put up strong numbers. Clippers/Mavericks led the way in men 18-49 (1.35) & males 12-34 (0.88) with Nuggets/Jazz (1.14/0.65) and Celtics/Raptors (0.92/0.62) a close second and third. ESPN also did quite well with an evening 'MLB Baseball' game between the Braves & Phillies which found a 0.37 M18-49 rating and 988,000 viewers. The top-rated 'NHL Playoff' game was Avalanche/Stars at 0.29 in M18-49 and 715,000 viewers.
On the scripted side, Adult Swim's 'Yolo Crystal Fantasy' won out in adults 18-49 (0.28/0.26) and pulled its best numbers in M12-34 (0.26/0.22). Other programs of note include HBO's 'Lovecraft Country' (747,000) & 'The Vow' (338,000), Syfy's 'Wynonna Earp' (342,000), and Starz's 'P-Valley' (384,000) which finally dropped after several weeks of impressive growth
Finally, the premiere of 'Love Fraud,' on Showtime, was a speck at just 0.01 in the demo and 135,000 viewers.
