Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are three charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to both Billboard and Rolling Stone. The two sites have different sources of data, hence why their numbers are different (but close). A second chart includes the top 10 albums of the week according to Billboard based on pure album sales, and the third chart includes the top 25 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.
J. Cole's new album 'The Off-Season' easily debuted atop the weekly Album Sales chart, scoring the second-best sales week of the year with 282,000 album-equivalent units in the tracking week ending May 20. This was the best number since Taylor Swift's 'Fearless (Taylor's Version)' pulled 291,000 units in the week ending April 15. Nicki Minaj's beefed-up 'Beam Me Up Scotty' mixtape entered in the second spot with 80,000 units after its re-release with new tracks. Elsewhere in debuts, The Black Keys dropped their new album 'Delta Kream' with 35,000 units to rank sixth, and Alan Jackson debuted 'Where Have You Gone' in ninth with 32,000. With this, both Moneybagg Yo's 'A Gangsta's Pain' (55,000) and Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' (53,000) each dipped two spots from 1&2 to 3&4, Dua Lipa's 'Future Nostalgia' held in fifth (41,000), Justin Bieber's 'Justice' dipped to seventh (34,000), and DJ Khaled's 'Khaled Khaled' tumbled to eighth (32,000). Of note below the Billboard Top 10 is: The Weeknd's 'After Hours' (28,000), Ariana Grande's 'Positions' (19,800), Harry Styles's 'Fine Line' (19,200), and both Taylor Swift's 'Fearless (Taylor's Verion)' (17,300) & 'Folklore' (14,900).
