Album Ratings: Week Ending January 28, 2021

Albums achieve their positions on the weekly Billboard & Rolling Stone lists based on total units sold; a metric which is the sum of of pure album sales (sales of the entire actual album), streaming-equivalent album units (SEA), and track-equivalent album units (TEA). One SEA unit is equal to 1,250 premium (paid) streams, or 3,750 free streams, and one TEA unit is equal to 10 purchased tracks. There are two charts below: the first one has the top 10 albums based on total weekly units sold according to both Billboard and Rolling Stone. The two sites have different sources of data, hence why their numbers are different (but close). The second chart includes the top 20 albums of the week, according to Alpha Data, with breakdowns of pure albums, SEA units, and TEA units.

Morgan Wallen's 'Dangerous: The Double Album' spent a third week atop the album chart, delivering 130,000 units in the week ending January 28, down slightly from the 159K from last week. 'Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon' from Pop Smoke spent another week in second place with 45,000 units (on par with last week's 47K), and 'Evermore' from Taylor Swift moved up 4-3 with 35,000 units (vs. 41K). The Rolling Stone chart had Swift's other album, 'Folklore' in the third position (40,000 units) and 'Evermore' in sixth (32,000) though this is unusual because Billboard had 'folklore' in 16th. Also on the Billboard chart, Ariana Grande's 'positions' dipped 5-7 with 31,000 units (vs. 39K).
