Ratings Highlights: w/e 1/3/2021

Ratings highlights of note for the week ending January 3, 2021:

  • The New Year's Day season premiere of 'RuPaul's Drag Race' delivered a 0.46 adults 18-49 rating and 1.352 million viewers across six networks (VH1, MTV, MTV2, Logo, Pop, CW) with 0.24 & 561,000 coming from its home network VH1.
  • The series premiere of 'The Watch' on BBC America logged a 0.05 adults 18-49 rating with 274,000 viewers. It hasn't yet aired in the United Kingdom, so no comparison can be made yet.
  • HBO's 'His Dark Materials' concluded its second season to the tune of 347,000 viewers - the best numbers of the season (up from last week's 202K), but still down from last year's season finale (502K). It's also down quite a bit from what the show is getting in the UK where the finale garnered 4.7 million viewers when it aired on Dec. 20. This season has averaged 246,000 viewers in the U.S. compared to 4.92 million in the UK.
  • Over at Starz, 'Power Book II: Ghost' concluded its first season to 617,000 viewers, the best numbers since its premiere (680K), but down from what 'Power' got in its first season finale in 2014 (1.08 million) and what it had been getting in its final season last year (average of 1.22 million).
  • Starz also premiered the third season of 'In the Long Run' to low fanfare (177,000).
  • ABC's 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' dominated the New Years Eve ratings with 22.12 million viewers tuning in for the midnight quarter hour. Additionally, the program averaged a 2.3 rating with 8.35 million viewers for the 8pm-10pm portion, a 3.6 18-49 rating with 11.22 million viewers for the 10pm-11pm hour, and  a 5.6 rating with 18.4 million viewers for the entire post 11:30pm portion.
  • NBC delivered a 1.1 18-49 rating with 4.79 million viewers for its 10pm-11pm hour, and rose to 7.36 million viewers for the late night 11:30pm-onward portion.
  • The top 18-49 rating for the entire week came from FOX's 4pm nationally televised NFL contest which logged a huge 5.98 rating with 23.01 million viewers. 
  • The top cable ratings came from ESPN's Friday night college football game between Ohio State and Clemson which delivered a 4.94 adults 18-49 rating with 18.57 million viewers.
  • The series-premiere of 'Call me Kat' got off to a strong start on Sunday with a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating and 5.63 million viewers. 'The Great North' was less so with a 0.7 rating and 2.34 million viewers.
