TV Ratings: Thursday August 20, 2020

Aside from 'DNC Convention' coverage, CBS's 'Big Brother' was the one of the only originals airing on the broadcast nets, scoring the day's best numbers among adults 18-49 (1.0/7), adults 18-34 (0.6/6), adults 25-54 (1.3/7), and total viewers (3.907 million). Also airing was the premiere of CW's 'Mysteries Decoded' which bowed to OK numbers in both the demo (0.2/1, 214K) and total viewers (785,000). In convention numbers, ABC led the broadcast nets among total viewers (2.972 million), with NBC in second (2.154 million) and CBS in third (1.985 million). ABC also led among adults 18-49 (582,000) & adults 25-54 (799,000) with NBC next (423,000 & 568,000) and CBS last (391,000 & 473,000). Spanish-language nets Univision & Telemundo also aired the convention with the former edging out the latter among both adults 18-49 (346,000 vs. 266,000) and total viewers (1.001 million vs. 746,000).

Top programs on the spanish-language nets:
-Univision: 'Medicos, Linea de Vida' (516,000 18-49, 1.397 million total)
-Unimas: 'Que Culpa Tiene Fatamagul' (178,000 18-49, 480,000 total)
-Telemundo: 'Cennet' (476,000 18-49, 1.245 million total)

As has been the case the past three nights, cable news ruled the 'DNC Convention' ratings and Thursday was no exception. MSNBC again led in total viewers (6.146 million) ahead of CNN (5.569 million) and FOX News (2.968 million), but CNN won among adults 25-54 (1.691 million) with MSNBC (1.247 million) and Fox News (651,000) a ways behind. Also, according to a press release, there was an additional 36,000 viewers watching on CNN Espanol. Note: the way MSNBC does its numbers are weird so the 6.146 million viewer figure is strictly the 10pm-11pm hour as it is with both CNN & Fox News. The numbers in the chart below represents the frames of 8:50pm-10:37pm (5.676 million) and 10:37pm-11:16pm. 

Total viewership for the night was reported to be 24.6 million which include numbers from Fox Business, PBS, and Newsy - all of which I don't have numbers for. The numbers above sum to roughly 23.6 million, so there were an additional ~1 million viewers on those three nets. PBS's primetime average (8pm-11pm) was 1.65 million so I would assume the vast majority of that ~1 million came from PBS.

Elsewhere, CNN's 10pm hour led cable in women 18-49 (1.13 rating) and ranked second on the day behind 'Big Brother' (1.2/8). Bravo's 'Real Housewives of NYC' was at 0.43 in that demo and USA's 'Chrisley Knows Best' had 0.38. Also of note, MTV's 'Double Shot of Love' logged a 0.28 in F12-34, the best for any program outside of basketball & the convention. 

Other programs of note include TBS's 'Lost Resort' (335,000) and FXX's 'Cake' (80,000).
