Night one of the 'Democratic National Convention' ruled the TV ratings on both broadcast and cable Monday night. MSNBC led the networks among total viewers, delivering 5.169 million between 10pm and 11pm (the MSNBC ratings in the chart below are the average of 8pm-11pm), and CNN was close behind with 4.848 million. Next was ABC (2.442 million), NBC (2.282 million), Fox News (2.1 million), and CBS (1.987 million) though if you include the 127,000 who watched BET's airing of the CBS feed, then CBS beats out Fox News by 14K (2.114 million). Among adults 25-54, CNN easily led the pack (1.521 million), then MSNBC (1.02 million), NBC (676,000), ABC (650,000), Fox News (437,000), and CBS (425,000). Among adults 18-49, CNN was on top (0.92 rating), then MSNBC (0.49), NBC (0.4/2, 520K), and ABC (0.4/2, 484K). CBS (0.2/1, 312K), and Fox News (0.24) tied at the bottom. Outside of the convention, the CW had a new episode of 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.2/1, 957,000) which had moderate returns.
Top programs on the spanish-language nets:
-Univision: 'Como Tu No Hay' (678,000 18-49, 1.624 million total)
-Unimas: 'Que Culpa Tiene Fatamagul' (182,000 18-49, 483,000 total)
-Telemundo: 'Cennet' (459,000 18-49, 1.222 million total)
In non-convention cable ratings, ESPN coverage of the 'NBA Playoffs' featuring the Mavericks & Clippers led the day in the 18-49 demo (1.01 rating) as well as in men 18-49 (1.45), people 18-34 (0.87), and males 12-34 (1.04). Its 2.3 million viewers ranked it above everything not on CNN, MSNBC or Fox News. The other games, Sixers/Celtics, Nets/Raptors, and Jazz/Nuggets were at 1.19/0.85/0.74 in M18-49, 0.93/0.71/0.59 in M12-34, and 2.1 million/1.3 million/1.2 million in viewers.
Over at NBCSN, coverage of the 'NHL Playoffs' performed OK. Bruins/Hurricanes, Avalanche/Coyotes, and Blues/Canucks were at 0.33/0.24/0.24 in M18-49, 0.21/0.14/0.15 in M12-34, and 700,000/488,000/415,000 in viewers. Lightning/Bluejacks struggled to find an audience, only managing 364,000.
Elsewhere, TLC's '90 Day Fiance: Other Way' took victory among women 18-49 (1.06 rating) and females 12-34 (0.68) though CNN's 10pm hour was a close second in both metrics (0.91/0.52). 'Below Deck Mediterranean,' on Bravo, ranked third in both (0.85/0.44). 'Strikes Back' and 'Pillow Talk,' both also on TLC, were at 0.53/0.55 in W18-49 & 0.35/0.31 in F12-34.
Also of note, FS1's much-talked about Padres/Rangers game had a tiny audience (126,000), and HBO's 'I May Destroy You' was even smaller (88,000).
